Katya Ludmilla Smirnoff-Skyy and Mrs. Trauma Flintstone are proud to announce the CABARET SHOWCASE SHOWDOWN, an ongoing cabaret contest at Martuni's.

Each month, Katya and Trauma will hold a theme-oriented contest for best singer/performer.  Audience voting along with celebrity voting will determine the winner of each month's category/genre. 

There will be ten category/genre contests.  The eleventh contest will be the actual Cabaret Showcase Showdown for the season's top winner, who will receive prizes, plus 1/2 the "door" ... plus their own solo showcase night at Martuni's and a glamorous solo slot at one of San Francisco's best-loved street fairs.

The categories for CABARET SHOWCASE SHOWDOWN are:

-  Standards (best interpretation of songs from the American Songbook) ... held on June 1, 2008 ... THE WINNER:  DONALD ARQUILLA!

-  "New Skool"  (modern cabaret, variety and performance art as cabaret) ... held on July 6, 2008 ... THE WINNER:  CHAVE ALEXANDER!.
-  Comedic Songs (comic songs, novelty tunes, etc.) ... held on August 3,2008 ... THE WINNER:  CARLY OZARD!

-  Impersonators (live interpretation of another popular singer)  Contest on Sunday, September 28th at 7pm.

-  Original Material (singer/songwriters highly encouraged)  Contest on Sunday, October 5th at 7pm.
-  Belters (big-voiced, iron lunged bring-down-the-house singers)  Contest on Sunday, November 2nd at 7pm

-  Showtunes (new takes on Broadway songs)  Contest on Sunday, December 7th at 7pm.

-  Burlesque (a fairly all-encompassing genre ... think Gypsy Rose Lee, but with a better soundtrack).  Contest on Sunday, January 4, 2009.
-  Crooners (Sinatra, Clooney, Fitzgerald, Whiting, Crosby ... you get the idea).  Contest on Sunday, February 1, 2009.

-   R & B.  Rhythm & Blues, folks.  Self-explanatory.  Contest on March 1, 2009.

FINAL CONTEST (ALL GENRE WINNERS COMPETING) will be held on SUNDAY, APRIL 5, 2009.


The first contest was held on SUNDAY, JUNE 1 at 7pm, and was won by Donald Arquilla.
The second contest was held on SUNDAY, JULY 6 at 7pm and was won by Chave Alexander.

The third contest was held on SUNDAY, AUGUST 3 at 7pm and was won by Carly Ozard.
